PASAR PERSAINGAN MONOPOLISTIK

Teori pasar persaingan monopolistik (monopolistic competition) dikembangkan karena ketidakpuasan terhadap daya analisis model persaingan sempurna (perfect competition) maupun monopoli. Ekonom yang pertama kali mengajukan ketidakpuasan terhadap dua model diatas adalah Peirro Sraffa (Universitas Cambridge), kemudian diikuti oleh Hotelling dan Zeothen. Pada akhir dasawarsa 1920-an dan awal dasawarsa 1930-an, model persaingan monopolistik dikembangkan secara intensif terutama oleh Joan Robinson (ekonom Inggris) dan Edward Chamberlain (Ekonom Amerika Serikat).

Struktur pasar persaingan monopolistik hampir sama dengan persaingan sempurna. Di dalam industri terdapat banyak perusahaan yang bebas keluar-masuk. Namun, produk yang dihasilkan tidak homogen, melainkan terdiferensiasi (differentiated product). Namun perbedaan barang antara satu produk (merek) denga  produk yang lain tidak terlalu besar. Diferensiasi ini mendorong perusahaan untuk melakukan persaingan nonharga. Walaupun demikian output yang dihasilkan sangan mungkin menjadi subsitusi. Perusahaan memiliki kemampuan monopoli yang relatif terbatas/kecil.

KARAKTERISTIK PASAR PERSAINGAN MONOPOLISTIK

Tiga asumsi dasar persaingan monopolistik adalah:

1. Produk yang terdiferensiasi (Differentiated Product)

Yang dimaksud dengan produk terdiferensiasi adalah produk dapat dibedakan oleh konsumen dengan melihat siapa produsennya. Jika dalam pasar persaingan sempurna konsumen membeli barang tanpa perlu membedakan siapa produsen, dalam persaingan monopolistik yang menjadi pertimbangan adalah siapa produsennya. Barang- barang tersebut dapat diperbedakan oleh kualitas barangnya, model, bentuk, warna bahkan oleh kemasan, merek dan pelayanan.

Dalam kehidupan sehari- hari, kit selalu memiliki pilihan yang tetap untuk produk- produk sabun mandi, pakaian jadi, sepatu dan lain- lain. Seorang gadis yang biasa menggunakan sabun mandi bermerek “sutera” sulit untuk pindah ke emrek lain. Dia dapat membedakan produk sabun kesukaannya dari produk perusahaan yang lain. Hal ini menyebabkan perusahaan memiliki daya monopoli, walau terbatas.

Namun demikian diantara produk- produk tersebut sebenarnya dapat saling menjadi substitusi. Misalnya, dalam keadaan tertentu (sedang berada di desa), sabun mandi merek kesayangan tidak ada maka merek lain dapat menggantikn tanpa menimbulkan dampak negatif secara teknis (kesehatan terganggu). Karena itu, persaingan monopolistik berada di antara pasar persaingan sempurna.

2.  Jumlah produsen banyak dalam industri (Large Number of Firms)

Jumlah perusahaan (produsen) dalam pasar persaingan monopolistik banyak. Di Indonesia dapat dilihat dari begitu banyaknya merek pakaian dan sepatu. Banyaknya perusahaan menyebabkan keputusan perusahaan tentang harga dan output tidak perlu harus memperhitungkan reaksi perusahaan lain dalam industri (independence decision of price and output), karena setiap perusahaan menghadapi kurva permintaannya masing- masing.

3.  Bebas masuk dan keluar (Free Entry and Exit)

Laba super normal yang dinikmati perusahaan (existing firm) mengundang perusahaan pendatang untuk memasuki industri. Jika mereka mampu bertahan, dalam jangka panjang dapat mengalahkan perusahaan yang lain. Tetapi jika kalah mereka harus jeluar, agar kerugian tidak menjadi lebih besar. Sama halnya dalam pasar persaingan sempurna, dalam pasar persaingan monopolistik proses masuk keluar akan terhenti bila semua perusahaan hanya memperoleh laba normal.

English 50 – Intro to Creative Writing: Exercises for Story Writers

Basic Theory:
    What is a short story? As soon as someone delivers a definition, some good writer will write a story that proves the theory wrong. About the only thing we can say for sure is that short stories are short and that they are written in what we call prose. Some attributes, however, seem to show up more often than not.
    Short stories

1. have a narrator; that is, someone tells the story;
2. have at least one character in them;
3. have some action occur (or perhaps fails to occur);
4. take place somewhere; that is, there is a setting for the action;
5. and someone either learns something or fails to learn something (theme).

With these five characteristics in mind, we can create an almost endless supply of exercises to help sharpen our techniques of story telling.
 
Narrative Voice
    Twenty or so years ago, voice was the "rite of passage" into a successful writing career. Young writers were told that they should write until they developed their voice. The way to do this was to simply write (and read) as much as possible, having others read your work and comment on it, until your voice became distinct from others. The evidence to support this theory was generally drawn from the body of work of successful writers. Everyone agreed that you could read a Hemingway story, for instance, without factual evidence that the story was written by Hemingway, and recognize it as his work because of his distinctive voice. Faulkner provided an even clearer example of this philosophy. In more recent years, the notion that one must discover a unique voice has become a secondary issue as any number of successful writers have demonstrated that they can write in more than one narrative voice.
    Nevertheless, a narrative voice that sounds like it could be anyone's voice or is bland and boring, or riddled with pointless clichés will fail to capture and hold the reader's attention. And a voice that is inconsistent will tend to confuse the reader about the narrator's attitude towards his/her characters and the story that is being told.
NOTE: It is quite common for writers in the early stages of their careers to imitate the writers they are reading or admire most. Often we are not even aware that we are doing this when we write.

1. Locate a relatively long descriptive passage in a short story or novel that you enjoy, and write a blatant imitation. Follow the sentence structure and syntax word for word. Do this exercise for as many different writers as you can. You should write at least 250 words each time you do this exercise.
2. Use a text like Best American Short Stories, containing about 20 stories from as many writers, and write imitations of the first page of each short story in the text.
3. Write a complete short story in imitation of your favorite writer from each major historical period for the past three centuries. (Note: you can change the subject matter, sex of the main character, and other such details and still write an imitation.)
4. Locate a writer whose work you do NOT particularly care for and write a parody of the story.

Point of View     Language is always uttered from some point of view; that is, it comes from someone. Scientific writers and legal writers (lawyers, the court) may try to hide this fact by writing in a voice so passive that it begins to sound as if it were uttered from some completely impartial god outside of the human experience, but no one argues more passionately than those folks who write within these two areas.
    When writing a short story we use one of the following points of view:

1. Third Person Restricted: We recognize this from the pronouns "he" or "she." In this point of view, probably the most popular, and some would argue the most natural, all the action takes place in the presence of the character from whose point of view we learn the story. If we are taken "inside the head" of a character, it is only within this character's head. The narrator does NOT tell us what anyone else thinks or feels. This character may or may NOT be the main character of the story.
2. First Person: We recognize this from the pronoun "I." Like third person restricted, all of the action takes place within this character's presence, and we learn only his/her thoughts and feelings in any kind of direct fashion.
3. Omniscient: As the word implies, this is a god-like point of view. The narrator freely moves from one character's perspective to another. This point of view was far more popular in previous centuries than it has been in the current one, reflecting both the tastes of authors and the reading public. Using this point of view within a short story is very difficult to pull off with any success because of the space restrictions. It takes time to develop more than one character's point of view.
4. Second Person: We recognize this from the pronoun "you." This point of view is rarely used except in some experimental writing. Literally "you" means the reader, and a story told from this point of view can quickly become tiresome. Authors often, however, slip into the highly vernacular syntactical structure of using the pronoun in a casual manner—I kind of "you know what I mean" statement—because the language used to tell stories is more often than not colloquial.
5. Pure Dramatization: This really isn't a "point of view" but occasionally a writer will produce a story that is very close to a play. That is, we receive almost all dialogue and very little narration, which usually seems little more than stage direction. Hemingway's "Hills Like White Elephants" is about as close to this as any successful short story trying to accomplish this technique.

Exercise: Take any story you have written and rewrite it from a different point of view. If you originally wrote the story in first person, try it in third person restricted. You'll discover that you need to do more than simply changing the pronoun.  You should find that it is easier to be more objective about a character you are rendering in third person. If you've written a story in third person, try it in first. This can be an especially fruitful exercise if you've had trouble making the character sympathetic.
A wonderful example of the use of point of view in a novel is F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Most casual readers remember this novel as a third person novel, but it is actually told from the first person point of view. We learn everything from Nick's perspective, Gatsby's neighbor.
As a variation on the exercise, you can take someone else's published story and render passages, especially paragraphs of narrative of at least a half page in length in a point of view other than that which the author used. Once again, watch what happens to the language as you change the point of view. What is it you need to add, take away? How does this change affect the emotional relationship the reader develops with the character.
 
The T.S. Eliot/John Gardner Killer Exercise: This exercise is quite possibly the most difficult, demanding and important exercise a writer can ever do. The poet and critic, T. S. Eliot, coined the phrase "objective correlative" to designate what he believed was the most important element in writing: Rendering the description of an object so that the emotional state of the character from whose point of view we receive the description is revealed WITHOUT ever telling the reader what that emotional state is or what has motivated it.
The late John Gardner, recognized in his lifetime as the leading creative writing teacher in the United States, developed the following exercise for students:
    A middle-age man is waiting at a bus stop. He has just learned that his son has died violently. Describe the setting from the man's point of view WITHOUT telling your reader what has happened. How will the street look to this man? What are the sounds? Odors? Colors? That this man will notice? What will his clothes feel like? Write a 250 word description.

Unforgettable Overland Tour

SABTU, 15 MARET 2014 – hari yang ditunggu akhirnya datang juga. Bagaimana tidak? Hari ini memang patut di tunggu karena hari ini adalah awal perjalanan kita menuju Pulau Dewata, Bali. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan antusiasme dan semangat anak- anak yang membawa barang- barang mereka dan memasukannya ke dalam koper tanpa kantuk, sekalipun mereka yang rela tidak tidur. Ini dia cerita kita dari awal hingga akhir, simak ya!

HARI 1: jam 4 pagi perhutani sudah di penuhi anak-anak. Ada 2 bis dari perusahaan White Horse yang menanti kita. Setelah menunggu cukup lama, akhirnya kita berangkat. Perjalan berawal dari Jakarta Timur. Aktifitas kita lakukan di dalam bis. Makan, minum, tidur, bercanda ria, dan hiburan kita lakukan.hingga malam tiba, kita masih di jawa tengah.

HARI 2: kita berada di jawa timur dan sebentar lagi akan sampai di Bali. YEAY! Kita mandi dan sarapan di jawa timur dan setelah itu kita melanjutkan perjalanan. Sekitar jam 11, kita mulai menyebrang dengan menggunakan Ferry. Pemandangan di atas ferry cukup memukau dan tidak sedikit orang mengambil foto bersama. Setelah menyebrang kita langsung menuju Rumah Makan Islam Bidadari yang berlokasi di kabupaten Jembrana. Dan setelah itu kita melanjutkan perjalan panjang ini. Hotel kita berlokasi di kabupaten Badung dan lokasi itu cukup jauh dari kabupaten Jembrana. Jadi tak mengherankan jika kita tiba di saat malam. Kamar hotel Puti Nusa Indah 2 cukup nyaman dan bersih. Dan akhirnya kita semua bisa beristirahat dengan nyaman.

HARI KETIGA: saatnya menjelajahi BALI!! Objek pertama kita yaitu GALUH, dimana kita bisa melihat hasil karya para pengrajin. Lalu dilanjutkan dengan menonton Tari Barong yang unik. Setelah itu kita makan siang di bukit Kintamani yang dingin dan lalu ke pura tirta empul, setelah itu kita mengunjungi pasar sukowati bali yang ramainya luar biasa. Setelah itu kita melihat pertunjukan Tari Kecak yang mistis yang juga merupakan penutup acara hari ketiga. Kita makan malam di hotel dan tidur.

HARI KEEMPAT: beach time! Kita menikmati pagi di pantai sanur lalu dilanjutkan ke monument bali yang panas tapi asik, lalu kita juga ke Garuda Wisnu Kencana yang sangat menarik karena di GWK ini, terdapat patung dan tebing-tebing yang mengagumkan. Setelah dari GWK kita menuju ke pusat oleh- oleh bali dan makan siang di tempat itu dan dilanjutkan ke pantai kuta untuk melihat sunset! Setelah tiba di kuta, beberapa orang mengganti pakaian nya dengan pakaian pantai dan langsung ke kuta yang memang indah. Terik matahari sore tak membuat kami berhenti mengitari pantai dan bermain pasir. Dan setelah mentari tertidur kita langsung ke krisna, pusat oleh- oleh bali yang sangat terkenal. Disitu kita bisa membeli berbagai macam oleh- oleh khas Bali dengan harga terjangkau. Lalu kita makan malam disana sambil menikmati Live Music dari Gremcya. Setelah puas berbelanja, kita kembali ke hotel untuk beristirahat. Tapi nyatanya, waktu istirahat dipakai untuk mengerjakan tugas. Anak- anak berlarian di koridor menuju kamar yang satu ke kamar yang lainnya untuk memanggil anggota kelompoknya. Dan akhirnya, semua mulai tertidur setelah jam 1 pagi.

HARI KELIMA: kita tak terlalu bersemangat hari ini. Bukan karena kurang tidur, tapi karena ini merupakan hari terakhir kita di Bali. Perjalanan di awali dengan mengunjungi Sangeh, lalu ke Danau Bedugul untuk makan siang dank e Tanah Lot. Sayangnya, cuaca tidak mendukung sehingga kita kurang menikmati Tanah Lot. Dan setelah Tanah Lot, akhirnya kita kembali pulang and say Good Bye to Bali. Kita mulai menybrang jam 10 malam dan seperti hari pertama, kita tidur di bis.

HARI KE 6: kita berada di Blitar sekarang dan kita akan menuju tempat mandi lalu sarapan. Setelah sarapan, kita semua berjalan sekitar 1.5 km menuju Tempat Makam Bung Karno. Tempatnya bisa dibilang istimewa karena memang sangat mengagumkan. Setelah itu perjalanan dilanjutkan dan saat itu kita menuju Hotel Ros-In. kita sampai di Ros-In pada malam hari dan disambut oleh anak multimedia yang sudah 3 hari disana. Dan akhirnya, setelah menempuh perjalanan yang panjang, kita bisa beristirahat dengan nyaman di Ros-In.

Hari ke 7: say hello to Jogja. Kita memulai pagi hari dengan menuju ke candi prambanan. Setelah itu dilanjutkan ke Keraton Jogjakarta dan diakhiri dengan belanja ria di malioboro. Tak lupa, kita juga mengunjungi Toko Djava dimana kita bisa membeli oleh- oleh khas jogja khususnya bakpia. Setelah itu, kita kmebali ke hotel dan menyiapkan diri untuk Table Manner. Table Manner juga merupakan makan malam kita dan berkahir jam 12. Anak- anak yang kelelahan tak bisa tidur dan akhirnya mereka berkumpul di beberapa tempat untuk bercanda ria.

Hari ke 8: last day! Kita menjuju Jakarta sekarang. Tapi sebelumnya, kita mengunjungi Candi Borobudur dan setelah mengelilingi Borobudur, kita kembali ke bis dan melanjutkan perjalanan menuju Jakarta. Kita tiba di Jakarta jam 12 malam dan akhirnya kita pulang ke rumah masing- masing setelah mengikuti overland tour yang melelahkan.

Itulah cerita singkat kita selama mengikuti Java- Bali overland tour. Kita sangat berterimakasih kepada para Guru Pembimbing dan 2 Bli kami dari Bali yang dengan sabar memandu kami di pulau Dewata. Kita berharap, kita dapat mengulang perjalanan yang tak dapat kita lupakan ini. Pengalaman luar biasa ini kkita bagi untuk adik-adik kelas yang tahun depan akan melakukan overland tour dan kami harap, adik-adik semua dapat melakukannya dengan lebih baik. Thanks and regards.

well, you may think this is a story of myself sitting alone in my house do nothing but fun. think again lol.

so, hari minggu, tepatnya tanggal 23 februari 2014, you guys knew already, thats the LAST DAY of IFW (indonesia fashion week). and at the same time, ada event namanya EDUEXPOs di Intercontinental Midplaza Hotel. keren sih, tp apa yang bikin "LONELY" ?

yep. seperti yg ketahui rumah gue di bekasi dan ifw itu di jcc jak-sel dan yak. karena ga ada yang mau ngikut (setelah ngajakin orang susah payah) akhirnya, fix. i'll do it myself. well, i wore a crop tee and denim short and flat shoes.

pertama, i took a public transportation, dilanjutin naik busway turun di halte GBK lalu mampir ke fx buat ganti baju dan niatnya sih naik taksi. udah dpt sih eeeh, tiba tiba sang supir berkata kalo taksi ga masuk sampe jcc (yg sebenernya bohong) dan akhirnya gue turun dah jalan kaki ke dalam (sial emang). pas itu lg ada kampanye yang bener- bener bikin kesel-_- i just walked and they just like asdfghjkl. like they never seen any girls in their whole life. i really hate that kind of act.

after a 30-minutes walk, i finally arrived at jcc. i waited for someone from WHAT's UP MAGAZINE to give me two free tickets. (i win this prize and THANK YOU WHAT's UP!!) i met her and she gave me the tickets and well. i got in.

YEAY. a REAL BIG YEAY for me. it's so ASDFGHJKL AMAZING. just, hey, there's models, a high-fashioned peoples, photographer, stylist and omfg there's also some designers. wow bgt kan. ahaydeeee~

HAHAHAHA. banyak cogan korea euy! dan disana, we have to speak in english. it's a must karena yang jaga booth nya orang asli dr negara dimana universitas itu berada. ya emang sih ada penerjemah, tapi pasti kita ga tahan kalo ga ngomong sama bule nya langsung,

menurut gue yang paling cakep itu yang dr jerman, namanya philip. idungnya mancung dan super bae. mana kalo senyum adorable bgt pula. hadoh. ckck

disini, ada 20 universitas (kayanya) dari itali, usa, hongkong, korea, jerman, denmark, swiss, UK, australia. dan yang paling banyak itu dr korea. dan program yang ditawarkan juga beragam, dari bachelor sampai master juga ada. sampe doctor pun juga ada.

dari pariwisata, hotel, dokter, arsitek, science, iptek, design, semua ada deh. bener- bener lengkap.

nyesel banget lah kalo ga kesini, karena event ini salah satu event yang berguna banget buat kalian- kalian yang punya niat school abroad. nih gue ambil beberapa brosur yang enak bgt dibaca :D

so. itulah pengalaman pertama gue jalan- jalan ke jak-sel SENDIRIAN. yaaaa meski emang have fun banget. it's ok lah :D hehe toh, belajar mandiri juga. dan akhirnya gue pulang by busway and arrived at home at 7 p.m. such a wonderful yet tiring sunday.
